Finishing up another vis program
Just got back from the IGDA Austin picnic. Good times! I met some very cool programmers, ate Oreo ice cream, and played in a sprinkler. That’s hard to beat. Tonight, I’ll be finishing up visuals for Classic Game Fest. It shall be done! I’ve even got the projector set up in the living room for some big-screen testing. Strong iced coffee, don’t fail me now! Pics and/or video...

Old school
I was looking through some old CD-ROMs this afternoon, and I found something labeled “PC Backup.” Oh muh gees, you guys. I found photos from 2003 of me taking apart, fixing, and playing a Super Famicom pirater from Taiwan. I found an NES ROM of a Hello Kitty Super Mario Bros. hack I made in high school. (Uh huh, even as a wee beb I was into old-school NES stuff.) I also found all of my...

Rivane Neuenschwander's Playful but Serious Art →
“That kind of paranoia interests me, and thus this work is a mixture of chance and control. It is not preconfigured but is instead rather like a game, and it ends only when I have found all the microphones, which will then be replaced with speakers to play back the sounds of my destruction of this space.” Coooooool.

I’m so excited to hear about what Masahiro Sakurai is up to. He’s basically my hero. (Or, should I say, “my ‘hiro?” Ehehehe… no.) Can’t wait!

Bourbon + ASM = Success
Everybody: JMP  Jump is finished and hardware-tested. Yay! I’m celebrating with a splash of Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon. It’s a great mid-range (~$30) bourbon, perhaps even my new favorite. Meeps! Bleeps. The night is young, and the house is quiet; time to get started on the next vis program. This should be interesting… P.S.: 92 stars in SMG2 now. Yes, my whole life does...

Postcard from Rainbow Resort
I just spent an hour on YouTube listening to the soundtrack for Kirby’s Adventure (NES). The music is incredible. Someone’s put together a YouTube playlist of the game’s songs if you want to join in the fun. Kirby’s Adventure is my favorite video game of all time. There, I said it.

Take that, Bowser
I just beat Super Mario Galaxy 2. Woot loops. The main quest was a lot easier/shorter than I was imagining, especially after hearing everyone talk up the difficulty. I actually found it to be easier than SMG1. To be honest though, it doesn’t bother me if a game isn’t rippingly difficult. (Rippingly: not a real word.)  I think that difficulty is sometimes just the mask that a crappy...

It's-a Us, Mario Platformers!
Given all of the e-buzz about SMG2, I decided to try ranking the US console (non-handheld) Mario platformers by my own order of preference.  It was tough, but I made my decision. I’m prepared to stand by this… until I change my mind, that is. Once that happens, all bets are off.  Take a look. 1. Super Mario World 2. Super Mario World 2* 3. Super Mario Bros. 3 4. Super Mario Galaxy 2 5. Super...
